I am sorry to inform you of the death of my husband, John S. Burger, who died on April 21 following a long illness. The funeral is on Friday, April 24 at 10:00 am at Congregation Rodfei Zedek in Hyde Park. Burial is at Waldheim Cemetery in Forest Park, followed by a shiva luncheon at Chicago Jewish Funerals in Skokie. Details are in the link below. The service will be live-streamed. For northsiders who cannot attend the funeral, I hope you will join me for the shiva luncheon after we return from the cemetery, approximately 1 pm.

May his memory be a blessing.

I am sorry to hear of John's death.  He and Joyce were frequent riders for a long time.

John and Joyce took over the EBC Newsletter from me in 2008, when I became EBC president, and have done a fine job for 18 years now: an 18 years in which the newsletter, like the club itself, shifted with the technological changes.  A big thanks to both of them!

Absolutely, I echo Mike’s sentiment, a huge THANK YOU to John and Joyce!

I mainly know John through years of riding with him and Joyce, on our annual weekend trip to Harvey Lyon’s home on the Beverly Shore.  On a long weekend with hot weather, long miles, and many people sharing two bathrooms, John was one we can depend on to stay good humored, patient, and willing to help in whichever way he could.  He obviously loved cycling, used to come out during the dead of winter for weekend show & go rides, and tried very hard to stay active in spite of the onset of his illness, as the years went by.

I also admire the deep bond between John and Joyce, and their unwavering devotion to each other.  It’s the kind of bond that brings the much needed warmth and hope to our hearts.
