Tuesday Moderate Ride – July 1st – 9:00 AM – Panera

Blowing things up and burning dead animals are not my idea of a good time. Consequently, the Fourth of July is not among my favorite holidays. Nonetheless it has become a tradition that I lead an annual ride to the Liberty Restaurant in Libertyville on the Tuesday before the Fourth of July (or on the Fourth itself in those years when it falls on a Tuesday). This year will be no exception.

Please note that service at the Liberty Restaurant can be a bit slow. If you are in a hurry, this may not be the ride for you.

I have jiggered the route for this year’s ride. Rather than heading north of Sheridan and then working our way over to Libertyville and returning to Wilmette by way of Northbrook, we will be reversing the route. We’ll be making our way to Libertyville by way of Northbrook and Riverwoods. Returning on bike paths, Sheridan and Green Bay roads. This will allow us to take advantage of the “cooler by the lake” effect on the return trip. Here is a link to the route I will be using: LibertyRest2025 · Ride with GPS. Our total distance will be about 51 miles. I will ride at a moderate (13 – 15 mph) pace. With enough interest Len will lead a second slightly faster group.

Tuesday’s weather forecast is reasonably good: mostly sunny with a few afternoon clouds and a high temperature of 84 degrees. The winds will be a mild 5 to 10 mph from the NNW, which means that the wind, such as it is, will be at our back for most of the return trip.

Feel free to dress in red, white, and blue, or to drape the black flag of anarchism over your shoulders or to wear any old thing you find in the closet. I have purchased a new patriotic T-shirt just for this ride
